Three Choirs Festival - 28th July - 4th August 2018

The countdown has begun to the Three Choirs Festival 2018, this year set at the stunning Hereford Cathedral.

The Three Choirs Festival is a week-long programme of choral and orchestral concerts, cathedral services, solo and chamber music recitals, masterclasses, talks, theatre, exhibitions and walks, rotating each summer between the beautiful English cathedral cities of Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester.

The greatest choral, orchestral and chamber music at the worlds oldest classical music festival.

The artistic director gives some details about what the week has in store:

Following performances of Mendelssohn's two great oratorios Elijah and St Paul at the 2016 and 2017 festivals, we complete our cycle of his major choral works with his Lobgesang, paired with Bruckner's Te Deum.

At the heart of the festival since its origins in the early 18th century, the Three Cathedral Choirs of Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester combine for joint Evensongs and a performance of Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610, sure to be a highlight of the week.

The festival will end with Brahms' Requiem, in a programme including Parry's own Elegy for Brahms, and Parry's pupil Vaughan Williams' Toward the Unknown Region.

I hope you enjoy browsing the wider range of events on offer, and we look forward to seeing you in July!

Why not stay with us at The Priory Hotel, to make your Three Choirs experience even more enjoyable?

Hay festival, Hay-On-Wye, Wales 2018

Celebrating its 31st year, Hay Festival has brought together writers from around the world to debate and share stories at its festival in the staggering beauty of the Welsh Borders. Hay celebrates great writing from poets and scientists, lyricists and comedians, novelists and environmentalists, and the power of great ideas to transform our way of thinking. "We believe the exchange of views and meeting of minds that our festivals create inspire revelations personal, political and educational." Hay is, in Bill Clinton's phrase, 'The Woodstock of the mind'.

Hay Festival was founded around a kitchen table in 1987 and continues to attract the most exciting writers, filmmakers, comedians, politicians and musicians to inspire, delight and entertain.

This year events run from Thursday 24th May - Sunday 3rd June. Click here for a programme of what's on.

Just 18 miles away from the festiavl site, why not book to stay with us during your literary adventures. Send us an enquiry via our 'Contact' page or call us directly on +44(0)1432 760264.
